What is voice verification?
Voice verification is like checking someone's fingerprint. The voice of each person is unique and can be used like a fingerprint. However, unlike a fingerprint, the voice of a person can often be extracted without any additional hardware, for example, in applications with a customer on a cellphone or a laptop computer, a microphone is already available. The voiceprint can be used allow access to services or hardware only to an authorized person. Typical applications are automated phone banking, password reset, login control, etc.
How well does it work?
The performance of voice verification technology depends on a few key factors, the quality of the obtained voice samples (e.g. signal-to-noise ratio) being the most important one. Surprisingly, the quality of the used microphone is of little importance. In general, if a speech sample is intelligible to a person, its quality will be acceptable for Anovea's technology. This is usually the case if someone directly speaks into a microphone, for example, a cellphone. Performance will be diminished if a speaker is far away from the microphone.
